Hello everyone. Have y’all ever questioned if La La Land deserved to be nominated for Best Picture? Or debated if Quentin Tarantino is actually overrated? Or perhaps challenged others by asking is Die Hard a Christmas movie? Here on the Don’t Be Crazy movie podcast we ask these questions and more with the help of fellow film enthusiasts. Who’s we? I’m Zach Rancourt and with me today is Amanda Jane Stern. We might not be certified film critics or have our own column in The New Yorker, but the only thing we love more than cinema is talking about it.
"What are you, a man or a mouse? I mean, a woman or a wouse?" On this episode we are discussing the 1980 classic 9 to 5 starring Lilly Tomlin, Dolly Parton, and Jane Fonda. When a make believe/real life revenge plot goes awry, three under-appreciated working women must work together for the betterment of the workplace and to avoid jail time. All the while and most troublesome, they have to deal with their abhorrant boss Mr. Hart.

Pour yourself a glass of chianti to pair with those fava beans as Zach and special guest Amanda J. Stern discuss the 1991 thriller/horror film The Silence of the Lambs. Two incredible performances anchor this thrilling tale of an FBI agent in training, Clarice Starling, who tackles the odds in a male dominated workforce in order to track down the nefarious Buffalo Bill, a serial killer who hunts women. Along the way, Agent Starling uses psychopathic killer, Hannibal Lecter, to aide her in the hunt. Will Lecter prove to be helpful or is Starling in over her head?

I'm gonna be the best, perhaps not technically the best, but arguably the most famous accordion players in an extremely specific genre of music? Chances are you have heard a Weird Al song once or twice in your life. But do you really know what happened behind the music? On this episode David Dassau from the Geek Garage Podcast will help Zach discuss the "true" biopic that is 2022's Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. Is this satire over done or did they knock it out of the park?

Hi! I'm Zach and I'm you're friend to the end! Hi-Dee Ho! Sit back, relax, and open those ear holes as we discuss the 1988 killer doll classic Child's Play. When serial killer Charles Lee Ray transfers his soul into the body of a Good Guy doll, he takes an interest in his new owner, Andy Barclay. Not for his companionship, but something more sinister. This episode wraps up our Halloween Spooktober series.

Wan't Evil supposed to die about four years ago? Welp, either way, strap in as Jon and Zach discuss the brand new (and final) Michael Myers saga Halloween Ends. The trailer for this movie looks amazing, but the movie itself.....it's a movie, I guess. Despite the bad early reviews, is there some gold to be found in this movie?

Time for some good old fashioned anarchy. In the then distant future that is 2022, the government has made all crimes legal for 12 hours. Instead of stealing some fancy cars or cheating at gambling, everyone has decided to start killing. 2013's The Purge provided a fascinating and disturbing idea for a not so distant future that mirrored our society as it stood. Ideas are great and all, but how do they hold up for an entire film?

So is this a movie based off a movie based off a book based off another book? On this episode I enlist the help of film savant Amanda Stern to discuss the 1999 remake The Haunting. Starring Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta Jones, this CGI mess follows a group of insomniacs staying in a haunted Hill House mansion in an effort to study fear. All is not as it seems as the house, turns out, doesn't really like people snooping around! Spooky indeed. Tune in to see what Zach and Amanda have to say (or laugh at) about this unique film.
